A-Z The school welcomes a strong liaison between parents and staff. Please contact the office to organise an appointment with a staff member to ensure valuable classroom time is not interrupted and the teacher is available. Staff value parent interviews and need to give them the necessary time. Parents are asked to come through the Front Office prior to the appointment. Children should attend school regularly. This is essential if satisfactory educational progress is to be made and is a requirement by law. A note or phone message is necessary to outline the reason for absence. Cases where children miss school without explanation will be investigated. Our Home School Liaison Officer makes regular visits to the school. Parents must come through the office to complete a variation to attendance form when school hours of attendance are not followed. (e.g. Leaving early, arriving late) Students are not to arrive at school prior to 8.50am without prior arrangements. Children who arrive at school prior to 8.50am are expected to sit on the seats in the undercover area near the staffroom until the bell rings. Please inform the office immediately of any changes to address or phone number. In the event of sickness or an emergency, it is important that you can be contacted. Assemblies K-6 are held fortnightly at the school straight after recess at 11.50am. Assemblies are on the Friday of the even weeks of each term at the COLA (covered outdoor learning area). Parents and visitors are most welcome. Rotated class items are advised in the weekly newsletter. Banking: School banking is available each Monday through the Commonwealth Bank facilities in the school office. Bank books are handed in to the classroom teacher. Please label all possessions/clothing clearly. This can save a lot of effort in locating lost property. Children are encouraged to be responsible for their own belongings and to check LOST PROPERTY (Kept in a bin on the veranda outside the staffroom). A the end of term lost property items are given to charity. Expensive or precious items should not be brought to school. Dangerous or inappropriate belongings are not permitted on school grounds. Bicycles: Students K-2 are not encouraged to ride bikes to school unless arrangements are discussed with the Principal. Bikes are stored in an out-of-bounds area for security but should be engraved with the student’s name. Entry onto the street after school is supervised by the teacher on bus duty. Helmets are required to be worn by law. Any student without a helmet will have to walk home and parents will be phoned to collect the bike. Bus Travellers: Students K-2, or residing more than 1.5kms from school, are entitled to free bus travel. Forms are available from the school office. Bus passes must be shown each day. Students who misbehave and interfere with the safety rights of other travellers will have their bus privileges removed. Bus times can be obtained from Busways bus company on 66557410. Variations to bus travel should be communicated to the class teacher by note or by phoning the office, otherwise usual travel arrangements will be carried through. If collecting a student from bus lines please see the teacher on duty first. The canteen is run by a canteen manager with volunteers every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Profits are used to support school priorities. Volunteers to work in the canteen are keenly sought because they are essential to the smooth running of the canteen. Please contact the office. Our canteen follows and implements The NSW Government Healthy Canteen Policy. Orders can be placed before school on canteen days in the letterbox outside of the canteen. Orders should be on a paper bag with your child’s name and class clearly marked and money included. The school code of conduct is an integral part of the Welfare and Discipline Policy. Our rights/responsibilities along with an overview of the level system are included in this booklet. It also explains the consequences of students failing to meet the expectations of the code. Please reinforce the school’s behaviour code with your child. A copy of the complete Welfare and Discipline Policy is available on request from the office. Counsellor Services: A school counsellor is available one day per week (currently Wednesdays) for advice about student progress and well being. Appointments must be made through the principal. Parental permission is required before a student may have a counsellor assessment. Our Learning Support Team prioritises the counsellor workload and assists with support programs. Please present documentation to the Principal should any custody circumstances change or issues arise. Parents should note that a copy of custody orders are kept in confidential student files. Dangerous Materials: Materials regarded as dangerous and inappropriate are not to be brought to school for any reason. The list includes: super glue, knives of any description, spray cans, solvents, matches, lighters, cutting instruments. Participation is in the best educational interests of all children and parents are more than welcome to contact the Principal if financial assistance needs to be considered. Unless otherwise informed, full school uniform is expected on excursions. Children need to be reminded that the privilege of attending excursions is subject to behaviour at school being satisfactory. Treatment of students requiring attention includes: · First Aid— dressing minor wounds · Other— if it is something more serious e.g. headaches, deep wound, nausea etc you will be contacted by the school for advice. · Ambulance—in the event of serious injury, we summon the ambulance first, then make contact with the parents. It is also important that the school is notified of severe medical conditions and appropriate treatments and/or responses. Hats: The school has a “No Hat—Play in the shade” policy. Children who do not have a hat to wear during outdoor class activities or recess periods, must play under designated shade areas within the school playground. This rule applies ALL year and is designed to protect and ensure your child’s health. The school has a Homework Policy which has been endorsed by the parent community. It is school policy that homework is set for each class. Teachers will communicate their specific requirements to all parents at the beginning of the school year. The decision as to whether students complete set tasks is the responsibility of parents. Teachers will contact parents if a pattern of non-completion arises. Please discuss homework issues with your child’s teacher to avoid any problems. A copy of the Homework Policy is in this booklet. Library: The school library is open Monday through to Wednesday. A library bag is required when borrowing books. Books should be returned promptly. Books not returned must either be replaced or paid for.
